Cheer Up, Buttercup! Mar. 7-Mar. 13

The rain's going to give us a little break so head out while the sun's shining. Adopt a new pet, catch tons of live music, walk the Second Saturday walk or celebrate St. Patty's Day (safely). Have fun, everyone.

Mar. 11: Movie Night Pajama-Rama at Arden Hills Resort Club and Spa
Make it a family event or leave the kids to the movie while you dine at the resort's Mangos Restaurant. Children ages 4-11 are invited to catch a movie and enjoy popcorn and beverages. Your little ones are welcome to wear their favorite pajamas and bring their pillow, blanket, sleeping bag or stuffed animal.

Mar. 12-13: Meow Madness at Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary
Celebrate March Madness with friends and Meow Madness by growing your family. Well, a small addition. Become a forever home to an adult cat and get half off adoption fees! Pay $22.50 for cats ages one to seven years old. Pay $12.50 for cats eight years old and older. And if your heart is extra big, get two for the price of one.
This promotion is going on every Saturday and Sunday of March. And check out Happy Tails cats at PetSmart at the corner of Watt Avenue and Arden Way from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. Happy Tails is an all-volunteer, no kill, cage free organization.

Mar. 9: Belay 101 Class 
Learn the basic skills and techniques of belaying with CSUS Peak Adventures guides. Learn on a 40-foot rock climbing wall. Mar. 10-13: Sacramento Boat Show
This weekend Cal Expo will host the 37th annual Sacramento Boat Show and Off Road Extravaganza.
The expo will be open 12-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
$10. Children ages 11 and younger get in free. Uniformed law enforcement and military get in free.

Mar. 11: CSUS' Peak Adventures' Ride of the Month

Mar. 11: Shamrock Slam Presented by The Sac City Rollers
Catch The Sac City Rollers' Rude Girls compete against the Sweaty Betties at Foothill Skate Inn. There will be a beer garden for visitors 21 or older, raffle prizes and vendors.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, $30 for VIP, and $6 for children ages 7-12. Children 6 and younger get in free.

Mar. 11-13: Point Reyes Camping
Kick off the camping season with CSUS' Peak Adventures. Visit the model Miwok village, coastal tide pools and Point Reyes Lighthouse. The trip includes guides, transportation, equipment, entry fees and all meals. There will be a pre-trip meeting on Mar. 8 from 6-7 p.m.

Mar. 13: Learn to Ski and Snowboard
Learn to ski and snowboard at Boreal Ski Resort with CSUS' Peak Adventures. The trip includes guides, transportation, equipment, a beginner lesson and a lift ticket. Bring your own lunch and any of our own equipment if you have it. There will be a pre-trip meeting on Mar. 10 from 6-7 p.m.

Mar. 12: Around the World Cooking Demonstration with Destination: The Mediterranean
This demonstration from Arden Hills Resort Club and Spa's ongoing cooking demonstrations focuses on the Mediterranean. Learn how to make flavorful hummus dishes and other recipes inspired by the Mediterranean using heart-healthy ingredients. Space is limited so reservations are encouraged.

Mar. 12: St. Patty Mardi Gras Dinner and Show
Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with music and a show presented by the Sacramento Blues Society. The event features The Bayou Boys, Connor James and Kyle Rowland. There will be a corned beef and cabbage dinner as well.
The Sacramento Blues Society is "a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the Blues as an art form."
For dinner and the show, $25 for one ticket or $45 for two. Must be purchased in advance. Doors open at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
You can attend just the show at 7:30 p.m. for $15 at the door.

Mar. 12: St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl
Start a St. Patrick's Day tradition by joining the sixth annual Sacramento St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl. It starts at River City Saloon at 2 p.m. and ends at Shenanigans, rain or shine. The organizers remind fellow crawlers to stay off the streets and keep to crosswalks. Plan your transportation ahead of time so you don't drink and drive.

Mar. 12: Cake Craze
Stop by the Vibe Foundation for Cake Craze during your Second Saturday art walk. Re-fuel with Starbucks, Vic's Ice Cream and baked goods. This event is presented by the Vibe Foundation, a youth development initiative that aims to offer local high school students a teen-owned and operated career center and youth lounge. The group was founded by and for Sacramento County youth.

Mar. 7-8: Empty Bowls & Potters' Market Fundraiser for River City Food Bank
Help River City Food Bank raise their goal of $100,000 to help those in need. Choose from 1,500 hand-crafted bowls created by local students and professional potters. Monday's event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. will include wine, hors d'oeuvres and gourmet soup. $60 per person.
Tuesday will feature an 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. seating with gourmet soups and desserts. Tickets are $30 per person.
