Cheer Up, Buttercup! Jan. 17-Jan. 23

Jan. 18: Teen Fingerpainting
Fingerpainting holds no age limits and has no glass maturity-level ceiling. Try to tell your teen that. If they don't roll their eyes, head to the Franklin Community Library for Teen Fingerpainting!

Jan. 19: Wee Wednesday at Crocker Art Museum
Enjoy a gallery-based play date for children ages 3-5. Advance registration is required, and the event is free with museum admission. Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. at the admission desk.
Crocker members get in free, adult admission is $10. Seniors and college students get in for $8. Youth ages 7-17 get in for $5. Children 6 and younger get in free.

Jan. 20: Journey to Bubble Land with the Bubble Lady
Cheer up your January with bubbles! Rebecca Nile will enthrall your children with her interactive and creative show, and encourage children to read. Visit the Arden-Dimick Library for the free event.

Jan. 21: Mommy and Me Book Club
Start your kids off early learning the importance of reading, books and socializing. Bring your little ones to meet other little ones while you discuss the book of the month. Children of all ages welcome, as well as parents and caregivers.

Jan. 22: Hands on History: Trappers, Trades and Treaties
Learn about the lives and work of early Californian trappers. See examples of game traps and how they work, try out a quill pen, examine fur pelts and see musket demonstrations.
Adult admission is $5, youth ages 6-17 get in for $3. Children ages 5 and younger get in free.

Jan. 22: Music Fun with Music Matt
Get you and your kids moving with Music Matt at the Arden Hills Resort Club and Spa. The event will be held monthly and is perfect for kids ages 3-6. Music Matt will introduce your kids to music, instruments, singing and dancing. Parents are invited to stay and enjoy the fun, or explore the resort for standard resort fees.

Jan. 22-23: Founding of NASA: The Right Stuff
Give your kids a peek into what being an astronaut is like at the Discovery Museum Science and Space Center's "Space Quest" exhibit. Kids can dress up like an astronaut, see real astronaut food and "workout" in the Astronaut Training Center. The event is followed by free craft activities for kids ages 4-12. This weekend's craft is a paper astronaut.
Adults get in for $6, seniors and teens ages 13-17 get in for $5. Children ages 4-12 get in for $4 and children 3 and younger get in free.

Jan. 22: Tour, Taste, Talk: The Art of Tea
Tour the Crocker with docents with an emphasis on tea. View tea-related art from Japan and China, and follow it up by enjoying an Asian-inspired menu and tea tasting from the Crocker Cafe. Peter Luong from Red Blossom Tea Company will discuss teas from around the world.

Jan. 22: Teacher Workshop: Teaching History Through Art
This workshop will lead teachers through examining art from the Crocker's California collection and analyzing how these works reflect the society they were created in. The workshop was created in collaboration with Sierra North Arts Project and is based on the History-Social Science Content Standards for California and the Understanding by Design curriculum planning pedagogy.
