Cheer Up, Buttercup! Oct. 11-Oct. 17

Sure, it's Monday. But that means a whole new entry of Cheer Up Buttercup, offering events in and around the Sacramento area for the upcoming week. With a range of events from family-friendly to arts and sports, you can cheer up, buttercup!

FAMILY AND PETS:
Oct. 16: Oktobrewfest 5K and Kids' Root Beer Float Run
Ever wanted to share Octoberfest with your family but know it's not the best decision? Well now you can! Head over to Davis Saturday for the Oktobrewfest and Root Beer Float Run held at Sudwerk Restaurant and Brewery. Race Night Packet pick up starts at 4 p.m., kids' events start at 5 p.m. The 5K run/walk will start at 5:30 p.m. offering plenty of time for games, contests, food, music and brew after. Registration is expected to fill to the max, so hurry and get on the list. Online registration ends Oct. 15, 5 p.m.
$28 5K run/walk. $23 5K youth (ages 12 and younger). Kid's Fun Run $12.

Oct. 16: North Highlands Jubilee
The ninth annual event will have food, games, bounce houses, vendors, performances and live music. For children five years and younger, there will be free health, dental, hearing and vision screenings. Freedom Park is located next to the Aerospace Museum of California, and the museum is offering $2 off the Star Trek Exhibit admission for the day.

Oct. 16: GETty Crafty fundraiser
Fremont Park will have more than 70 vendors, live music, face painting, haircuts, massages and a raffle. The event will raise money for two year-old Getty, a girl suffering a terminal illness called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1.

Oct. 16: Kibble & Bids rescue fundraiser
The Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc. is holding their 10th annual Kibble and Bids fundraiser event. The group hopes to raise money for food, housing, transport and medical care for their dogs. The group was able to rescue 850 Golden Retrievers last year and is holding this year's event on a private estate along the Sacramento River. There will be an auction, music, entertainment and raffle.
$55 per person in advance. $65 at the door. $50 for Homeward Bound members. Tickets available here.

MUSIC AND ARTS:
Oct. 13: A Capella group Overtone to perform
The South African vocal group gained fame when their songs were chosen for the "Invictus" soundtrack. It probably didn't hurt that the group was discovered by Clint and Dina Eastwood. The group of seven will be performing at Harlow's.

Oct. 13: Los Lobos performs
Los Lobos will be at UC Davis' Mondavi Center for the first time. The band has been playing their musical blend of blues, Tex-Mex, pop, psychedelia, rock and traditional Mexican music for 35 years.
Tickets range $35-$58. Students range from $17.50-$29. Subscriber add-ons range from $30-$49.

Oct. 15: The Generals, Witzend, Early States, Amberglance and Brian Parker performs
Pay $5 to see five bands will be performing at The Refuge, an all ages concert venue in downtown Sacramento. The Refuge features a coffee bar, beverages and snacks.

Oct. 15: Maroon 5 performs
Maroon 5 will play at Arco Arena, with openers Bruno Mars and OneRepublic.

Oct. 16: Neo-Crocker Party
The Crocker Art Museum will hold a fundraiser slash modern culture party. See the newly re-opened museum while enjoying art, fashion, dancing and music by RJD2. Yes, RJD2. Also performing is DJ Shaun Slaughter, Sacramento Ballet, NSAA & Ross Hammond, Mario Ellis Hill & Arturo Balderama, Exquisite Corps and Jazz Gitan.

Oct. 16: Smoke Out Festival in San Bernardino
Incubus, Manu Chao, Deadmau5, Slightly Stoopid, MGMT, Cypress Hill, Nas & Damian Marley, Atmosphere, Erykah Badu, Maldita Vecindad, Basement Jaxx, Living Colour, Collie Buddz, Living Legends, Iration, Los Rakas, DJ Muggs, DJ Reza, Pablo Hasan, Paul Oakenfold, Lenny V, Against the Girl and more artists will take over three stages at Nos Events Center in San Bernardino.

Oct. 17: Ozomatli performs
Fans of the group famous for their "urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga" will want to head to Sac State's University Union Ballroom Sunday night.

Oct. 11: Monday Night Football
Celebrate the beginning of the football season with finger foods, drink specials and watching the game on two big screen TVs at Arden Hill Resort Club and Spa's Mangos restaurant. If you like it, head over there each Monday for the season.

Oct. 16: Open Cockpits Day at Aerospace Museum of California
The museum will have most of their aircraft open for viewing and even for visitors to sit in. The Aerospace Learning Center will also be open.
The North Highlands Jubilee will be going on next to the museum at Freedom Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Oct. 16: Oktobeerfest
