Sure, it's Monday. But that means a whole new entry of Cheer Up Buttercup, offering events in and around the Sacramento area for the upcoming week. With a range of events from family-friendly to arts and sports, you can cheer up, buttercup!

Oct. 9: FREE! Kidical Mass
Take advantage of Sac's newly changed weather with a family bike ride. Why ride, you ask? Kidical Mass' blog says, "Riding a bike is fun. It gets the blood flowing. It’s the antidote for cabin fever. It lets us feel the wind in our face. It feels like flying."
Adults must accompany children, and get ready to take it easy as riders will be going as slowly as the kids need. The pre-event at 9 a.m. will include bike decorating and receiving a Kidical Mass bib number, as well as a family-friendly bike safety class. The big event will start with a helmet check and go into the 2.6 mile loop down M street to Santa Ynez and back to East Portal Park. Bring a picnic lunch and plenty of water for the post-event. There will be treats, playtime and a raffle.
9 a.m. East Portal Park, corner of L Street and Rodeo Way.

Oct. 9: Ugliest Dog Contest and Cutest Canine Pageant

If you'd like to enter your dog, it is $5 per dog and entry is open until 3 p.m. the day of the contest/pageant. For entry information, visit their website.
