Whether you're interested in upping the holiday excitement or are looking for a break from all the red and white, this week's Cheer Up Buttercup offers enough to make everyone happy. There are events for everyone, no matter your budget, schedule or interests.

Dec. 3-4: Fairytale Town's Winter Wonderland
Dunk the whole family in holiday spirit with Fairytale Town's Winter Wonderland. Visit Father Christmas, vendors, enjoy live holiday entertainment and participate in activities all under holiday lights.
The park will be closing its doors at 2 p.m. both of these days to prep for the event.

Dec. 4-5: Upon a Midnight Clear Holiday Concert

Whether you need to entertain some family in town or you want to get outside (the beautiful foliage won't last too long), there are plenty of events to fill your calendar with. Sure, it's Monday. But the holidays are approaching at full speed and there are always things to do in Sacramento.

Nov. 24: FREE ADMISSION! Old Sacramento Tree Lighting Ceremony
Old Sacramento will officially kick off the holiday season with the Nov. 24 tree lighting and Theatre of Lights. Father Christmas will visit Old Sac, the Salvation Army Brass Band will perform and Mayor Kevin Johnson will flip the switch to light the tree.

Nov. 25-28: Sacramento Hmong New Year

Cheer Up, Buttercup! Nov. 15-Nov. 21

The holiday season is peeking around the corner, making sure you're preparing. Fortunately, there are numerous things to do to take your mind off whether or not to make the stuffing from scratch or what stores are having sales within hours after the feast. Early holiday arts and crafts shopping is available for a full weekend through the Sacramento Harvest Festival. Eat Up, Buttercup!

Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op teaches numerous classes each week through their Co-op Learning Center and Cooking School. They teach cookings, kids', community education, wellness and fitness, and gardening and green living classes.

Nov. 4: FREE ADMISSION! Sanrio's 50th Anniversary Celebration
Sanrio is on tour for its 50th anniversary, popping up in cities across the U.S. with their adorable, and sometimes species ambiguous, characters. Hello Kitty and friends are on an eight week Small Gift Mobile pop-up tour from San Francisco to New York City. For those who remember collecting colorful pencil holders and wallets to the more serious collectors, the tour will offer merchandise you can't find at just any other Sanrio store. Nov. 4: Dark and Stormy Tasting
Take a break on Thursday evening with a tasting of dark and stormy ales that Ten 22 will pair with brown bread and heirloom baked beans.

The Scrapbook Expo is for the beginners and experts, with tons of supplies sold and workshops to attend. 
The expo will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Experience a weekend of the "wondrous world of wood." There will be hands-on demos, Sacramento residents' art on display, expert advice, craft supplies hands-on seminar, cabinet restoration and refinishing and more.

Short-Fuse Bettie Entertainment presents Blazing Burlesque, a burlesque variety show featuring multiple performers. El Dulce Lobo will provide the live music. Must be 21 or older.

Nov. 7: FREE ADMISSION! Holiday Shopportunity and Craft Faire
The fifth annual event will feature more than 70 vendors to help find your ideal holiday items and gifts. There will also be food, raffles and free parking.
Bring a small, unwrapped gift for a child age 11 to 16 to donate to the Folsom Police Christmas Basket Program.
