Cheer Up, Buttercup! Nov. 8-Nov. 14

The clock hitting 12:01 a.m. Nov. 1 seemed to ring in the holiday season. And this week is busy with festive events, Veterans Day and fundraisers. No matter your schedule or interest, Cheer Up Buttercup offers new things to do every week. 


FAMILY AND PETS
The zoo is welcoming all military personnel, veterans and their families with a 50% discount with a valid military identification card. 
Street parking is free. Children 2 and younger get in free. Children 3 to 12 get in for $6.50. General admission is $10.50. Senior admission is $9.75.

Nov. 12-14: Petsmart Charities' Holiday National Adoption Weekend
Petsmart has set a goal of adopting 18,200 pets nationwide to their forever homes during this three-day adoption event. Receive a free bag of Purina Pro Plan brand pet food for each adopted pet. All adopted cats will come with a free 20 pound bag of Tidy Cat Scoop litter.

Nov. 13: FREE ADMISSION! Pet Food Drive
The Sacramento Cat Hospital is holding its second annual Pet Food Drive to benefit Loaves and Fishes and the Sacramento Pet Food Bank.
Donations of unopened dog and cat food, canned or dry, will help animals in need across the city. Other donations of leashes, collars, cat litter and other pet supplies are welcome. Everyone who makes a donation will be entered into a free drawing to win prizes.

Nov. 11: Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline Tribute Show
The Clean and Sober organization is holding the tribute show as a fundraiser and will feature The Rhythm Riders. All proceeds will benefit Clean and Sober whose mission is to "offer a path to recovery from chemical addiction to homeless and impoverished men and women through a long-term residential program, transitional housing and a community of support."

Local online newspaper Sacramento Press is holding a discussion about photojournalism led by Matt Whittaker. Whittaker is a freelance photojournalist who has worked at small newspapers in Iowa and California.
Whittaker will discuss his work and coverage of various stories.
